PRESS RELEASE - DECEMBER 2004
ANOTHER INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR SOUTH AFRICA,
The Foundation's main object is to promote rape prevention and raise funding for the education program in rural and peri urban areas.
Addi Lang (Return to Roots Skincare) and Aubrey Pieterse (TBS Services) are both elated with the award.
Addi says "This award is a great way for us to end the 16 Days of Activism Campaign, but we are not stopping here, we will continue to create awareness that rape can be prevented. The cause related marketing that is done through the sale of the RETURN TO ROOTS SKINCARE products has also contributed to the ever growing awareness. There is no point in saying that the incidence of rape in SA is too high. One rape is one rape too many and we need to instill a value system in our society that is sorely lacking. We need that moral regeneration that everyone keeps talking about and men must learn that no, means no!"
While Pieterse comments "The vulnerable are being pulverized in our country and we need to have a zero tolerance attitude towards crime. Out of over a million rapes committed in South Africa last year, there were 5000 court cases, with only 400 convictions."
It was through Mr Juan Nel - Director of Unisa Centre for Applied Psychology - who heard about the efforts of the Foundation and recommended the project. Nel said he had a sense that they believed so strongly in what they were offering and that they could make a difference.
A difference will only be made when all South Africans stand together and take responsibility and ownership of their rights in the country to a better judiciary system, as well as a different education program for our youth, as we are currently breeding a generation who were abused, and will become the abusers.
The RETURN TO ROOTS FOUNDATION also provides corporate training programs on health and safety ie: rape prevention workshops and hijack prevention workshops plus teambuilding. A portion of this goes towards our sponsored work.
Any donations are welcome.
Addi LANG
